SPACE V DEVELOPED THE PoC OF THE ADAPTIVE VERTICAL FARM FOR THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION
The Space V’s Greenhouse Demonstrator was displayed first time at the IAC24
Space V, developed a PoC demonstrator of the adaptive greenhouse for the IAC 2024 conference in Milan to show its innovative architecture to the space industry professionals attending the Congress.
The PoC Demonstrator features three cultivation shelves that move adapting to a simulated “accelerated growth” of the plants. Albeit this equipment is not “flight hardware”, some of its subsystems have been designed with the space qualification requirements in mind.
The POC demonstrator anticipates plants growing facilities for the ISS and for future Space Stations.
In the perspective of new commercial activities in LEO orbits and of the Artemis program for the return to the Moon, astronauts will have to be asked to complete longer missions, becoming more independent from food supplies from Earth.
